How do I find the right illustrator?
The first step is the most important one: understanding the specific challenge. After your initial contact, we discuss your goals, timeline, planned media and budget. We know the people behind the illustrations and can determine which of our experts is the best match for your project. We act as the link between an initial concept and a professional final result.
Will I work directly with the illustrator?
Yes! We agree on the conditions and ensure a smooth process behind the scenes from the beginning of the project. Direct communication between the illustrator and the client is a standard part of our creative work. This keeps feedback loops short and maximizes the creative output. If changes occur during the briefing, we can make adjustments without delaying production.
How much does an illustration cost and how long does it take?
We work on many different types of projects, ranging from a single illustration to complete series with multiple motifs and formats. This could be a simple magazine illustration for 300 euros, published once and completed within a few hours. Or it could be a 3D infographic for 5,000 euros, developed over several days in cooperation with scientists and presented to medical professionals at a conference. Larger projects often take more than three weeks and require clearly defined feedback processes. Examples include 15 humorous scenes guiding users through a software company's app, or a series of branding illustrations in different formats that give a company a distinctive visual identity across its website, social media channels and print publications. The price includes both the illustration work and the required usage rights. These depend on the media used, image sizes, territories, exclusivity and duration of use. We define all details during the briefing and make sure you receive exactly the licence you need.
Can I license existing illustrations?
This depends on the existing licensing conditions of the respective illustration. Usually, personal works may be available for additional usage, while images from previous campaigns may be subject to exclusive rights. We can research the availability of any illustration from our portfolio that catches your attention.
Can AI-generated images be used as references in a briefing?
AI-generated images are a useful tool for quickly visualizing a desired mood. However, they can only imitate a style. A professional commission depends on the working method and perspective of a human artist who creates a unique, original work based on their ideas and cultural background. This is only possible when the briefing is based on the selected illustrator's own portfolio and visual language. This allows a new and distinctive artwork to be created that clearly differs from existing images.
Why should I book with SEPIA?
